How it works
What the checker looks at
We pull the text out of your PDF the way simple screening software would, then run a set of checks on it.
Contact details
- Email and phone (Indian and international formats)
- A LinkedIn URL written out as text
- A city or 'Remote' near the top
Structure
- Standard headings: Summary, Experience, Education, Skills, Projects, Certifications
- Start and end dates for roles and study
Content strength
- How many bullets open with an action verb
- How many include a number — %, ₹ lakh or crore, time, volume
- Weak phrases and first-person pronouns
- Word count and page count
ATS readability
- Whether real text can be read (scans and images can't)
- Garbled characters and lines that run together
- A file name that says whose resume it is
A heuristic, not a hiring prediction
These checks are rules of thumb based on common resume advice. They can't judge whether your experience fits a role, and they can miss things or flag something that's fine for your field. Use the score to catch fixable problems, then trust your judgement.
Resume checker questions
Is my resume uploaded or saved anywhere?
No. The PDF is opened by pdf.js inside your browser and the checks run on your device. The extracted text is kept in this tab's session storage so the results survive a refresh; closing the tab or choosing “Check another file” clears it. The job description comparison runs in your browser as well.
What does the score measure?
It's a weighted checklist across contact details, structure, content and readability. Items that matter most to a first read — clear experience headings, action-led bullets, numbers and readable text — carry more weight than details like the file name.
Will a high score get me past applicant tracking systems?
No checker can promise that. Employers use different screening software and settings, and people make the final call based on how well your experience fits the role. A high score means you've avoided common, fixable problems — nothing more.
Why does it say very little text could be read?
The PDF is probably a scan, a photo, or a design where text was converted into shapes. Screening software reads text, not pictures of text. Export the resume again from a document editor or resume builder so you can select the words, then re-check.
Can I check a Word file or an image?
Not yet. Save or download your resume as a PDF first (in Word or Google Docs, use Save as or Download → PDF) and upload that. The limit is 5 MB.
My resume uses two columns. Is that a problem?
It can be. When text sits side by side, it may be read across both columns at once, mixing lines together. If the checker flags lines running together, a single-column layout is the safer choice.
How does the job description match work?
We pick out the most frequent terms in the job post and look for each one as a whole word in your resume. It's a quick signal of overlap, not how any employer ranks candidates. Add a missing term only where it's genuinely true for you.
